Todd Haggard saw what he thought was a Yellow Rail fly west across the narrow ditch at Irwin Prairie this evening at 7 PM. Later, at 9 PM, we both heard the rail call once. Rail was heard 20 yards west of Irwin Rd. and 20 yards south of the boardwalk.

Great find, Todd!

Yellow rail present this morning, this time about 50 yards east of Irwin Road and about 100 yards south of the boardwalk. It's calling as I type this. Had to wait about 45 minutes before I heard it.

Two Yellow rails present. Good numbers of Virginia rails, Soras, and Wilson's snipes too.

At least two, more likely three, Yellow rails were calling at Irwin Prairie this morning. The pattern was the same as yesterday - I arrived just after 5:30 but did not hear them until just before 6:15. The Yellow rails called without a break for about ten minutes then more sporadically. They were again on the east side of Irwin Road but only about 100-125 yards north of Dorr Street.
