After seeing Toms post I am inclined to move the trip to along the river. Could everyone interested contact me by replying here, e-mailing me stockfrord4@netzero.net , or calling my cell 419-360-3583. Because of the late notice I will decide by this evening where the meeting place will be and try to get Becky to update the hotline. If there is not much response then we will meet at Bayshore between 8-8:30. Thanks, steve

We are still meeting at Bayshore Edison at 8:30 a.m. Sunday but will
probably head west after scoping out the warm water outflow area and a
few areas along the lake.
I think Steve spelled his last name wrong in the email address above so it doesn't work. Edited by Sherrie - 17 January 2010 at 4:36pm |

Highlight of our trip today was a Great Egret at the Bayshore Edison outflow with some Black-crowned Night Herons. I am not sure if these guys have wintered around here before or if that is a record date?
We also had an unusual singing Winter Wren on the bridge over the water along the railroad tracks on Lotus Drive. It had that long melodious song but it wasn't the high pitched song that I have heard on tapes. I don't have much experience hearing this bird sing in the spring unfortunately, but I definitely think they have one of the prettiest songs. All and all, the dense fog made it hard to see distant birds, but it was nice to get outdoors anyways. ![]() It sounded like Tom was doing good on the river. Next year we will meet at a 'To Be Announced' location depending on what the scouting yields the day before. Edited by Sherrie - 17 January 2010 at 5:00pm |

Great Egret surely is rare mid-winter, but they regularly winter up in Monroe at the power plant/warm water outflow there. Bayshore isn't all that far as the egret flies. But a good bird indeed.

I took a drive along Lotus road yesterday and photographed a Great Blue Heron on the ice close to the bridge over the water. I had seen two of them in December in Ohio at the Toussaint area and was not aware that they wintered here. did not hear the winter wren though. darn! happy birding!
