Ewing Bottoms is much like our Killdeer plains in Ohio, but less official. Just overgrown and active farmer's fields that happens to attract some interesting species:

  • 3 Whooping Cranes (lifers for me)
  • hundreds of Sandhill cranes
  • 9 Snow Geese (all blue phase)
  • 30+ Eastern Meadowlarks
  • 12-20 Short-eared Owls
  • 2 American Kestrels
  • 3 Red-tailed Hawks
  • 7 Northern Harriers
  • Lots of Killdeer and Horned Larks.

Once the Sandhill Cranes flew into the field where the owls were hanging out, the owls left (noise polution?). The owls dive bombed a couple of cranes a few times.

All of the posted photos were taken within a few yards of this barn on west 300 near Brownstown, IN
